Teaser Tuesdays: A Moveable Feast

teasertuesdays31 Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

From Ernest Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast, The Restored Edition, page 163.

“Forget what Zelda said,” I told him. “Zelda is crazy. There’s nothing wrong with you. Just have the confidence and do what the girl wants. Zelda just wants to destroy you.”

I swear I honestly just came to this part in the book! I didn’t go looking for a part including Fitzgerald and certainly not this section of the book.

I am LOVING this book and really wish that someone had encouraged me to read it before now. I had no idea that Hemingway could write like this.

Teaser Tuesdays: Call Me Irresisitible

From Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Call Me Irresistible (Page 122)

“Maybe you should reconsider. He’s a decent-looking guy, and he’s rich. Frankly, he could be the answer to your prayers. ”

“If I were going to put a price tag on my lady parts, I’d fund a more appetizing buyer.”

I’m about halfway through the book and enjoying it very much. My only complaint (if you can really call it that) is that she refers to situations involving some characters which apparently took place in different books. But It’s probably my own fault and I should go back and read Fancy Pants and Lady Be Good.

Teaser Tuesdays: Just One Taste

From Louisa Edwards’ Just One Taste. (Page 67)

“Come on, Doc. Don’t tell me nobody’s ever wanted to spend time with you, just for you.”

His gently playful delivery deflated some of her need to snap back at him. “I’m not usually treated as a leper, if that’s what you are asking. But no. Historically my company hasn’t been highly sought out when it comes to social occasions.”

I’m about a third of the way through with this book and I love the banter between the characters. Edwards writes compelling characters. My biggest complaint about reading her books is they always make me hungry because they are cooking up something that sounds divine.

Every day gorgeous accessories hung from her ears and fanned out across her collarbone. Her rings could slice watermelons, and she wore a lot of them, sometimes one on every finger.

Page 41, The Girls of Murder City: Fame, Lust, and the Beautiful Killers Who Inspired Chicago by Douglas Perry.

I’m only about 50 pages into this book, but I’m enjoying it already. There is quite a cast of characters.

My teaser  from page 202 of Lonelyhearts: The Screwball World of Nathanael West and Eileen McKeney by Marion Meade:

A more accurate description of the company would be Cheapsville: its factory asembly line spewed out a constant stream of quickie action pictures using the most economical methods. Writers were given three weeks, or less, to do a script.
